West End has it all… great food, culture, arts and a family environment consisting of parks and schools. It’s also the centre of Brisbane’s festival scene. Here’s a look into of some of the tasty and incredible annual events within walking distance from your new home at Bankside, West End.
BrisAsia – January to February
BrisAsia Festival
Over ten days, the BrisAsia Festival celebrates the Lunar New Year (2025 is the Year of the Snake). Lush on Fish Lane is part of it - an Asian street festival on February 1 where you can catch live music, street theatre, break dancing, and cosplay. Arrive with an empty stomach and sample delicious Asian dishes from the likes of Chu the Phat, Bird’s Nest and Hello Please.
West End Fire Festival - March
West End Fire Festival, Davies Park
This quarterly festival encapsulates the West End vibe. Think fire twirling, vibrant live music, mesmerising flow arts, and delicious food trucks. It’s a free event in Davies Park, West End. The next one is March 15 (the last full moon of summer). All are welcome, including families and dogs on leashes.
Paniyiri Greek Festival - May
The Paniyiri Festival, West End
West End has one of Brisbane’s oldest Greek communities, and in May, we celebrate all things Greek. The Paniyiri Festival always draws a crowd trying to fill their stomachs with the delicious food (moussaka, anyone?), and others come to party like the Greeks with some ouzo-fuelled fun. It’s on in Musgrave Park this year on Saturday, May 17, and Sunday, May 18.
Anywhere Festival – July to August
Anywhere Festival
Now in its 15th year, the Anywhere Festival makes the world a stage. Performances can be anywhere… in homes, laneways, parks and local businesses. There’s always an eclectic mix of theatre, music, and comedy, and West End will undoubtedly be featured in the lineup. Keep an eye out for the schedule of this fascinating local event.
Brisbane Festival - September
Brisbane Festival, South Bank - West End
Brisbane shines in this city-wide festival. West End features a number of venues, including The West End Electric, a brand-new bespoke theatre. The local area will come to life with pop-up performances, art installations, and events. The famous Brisbane Riverfire is part of this festival and will be on September 6th this year. If you haven’t experienced this globally recognised event before - the whole skyline is lit up in an electrifying light show and flyovers from the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) and Australian Army helicopters.
Australia Independent Film Festival - October
Metro Arts, West End
Indie film lovers, this one‘s for you. The Australia Independent Film Festival is an annual event showcasing short films from a wave of new creatives and established filmmakers. There are awards, Q&A sessions and screens at various West End venues, including Metro Arts on Boundary Street. Have a short film you’ve been working on? Entries open in February.
