Celebrating Past and Present
This year Stockwell celebrated 70 years in business! Evolving from its origins in construction in 1952 to the solid, multidisciplinary business it is today, Stockwell spans design, construction, development, sales, leasing, property funds and ongoing property management for residential, leisure and retail projects.
Our success is built on the hard work and integrity of the Stockwell team, past and present. Generations of business expertise and property solutions have seen us build enduring relationships with investors, employees, clients, partners, and suppliers.
Take a look over some of our most memorable projects over the years.
Stockwell Residential - Regatta Apartments, West End
Over the years, Brisbane’s inner-city suburbs have been home to several Stockwell projects. With an excellent vision for the future of West End, Mark Stockwell, Stockwell's Managing Director, sent his sister Rose to bid on an industrial site on Kurilpa Street in 2000 with sights on completing the first residential apartments in West End. On that site, the Regatta Apartments were born and have been integral to West End’s evolution. Stockwell has since delivered almost 700 apartments across 12 residential buildings in West End alone.
Stockwell Retail - The Reading Newmarket Retail & Commercial Centre
The Reading Newmarket Retail & Commercial Centre, now known as Newmarket Village, covers 10,000m² over two levels with above and underground car parking and was opened in November 2005.
Stockwell successfully worked with the Department of Environment to remediate the area and remove it from the Register so it could be developed into a retail hub for the local community. Included on this site is the iconic Newmarket Hotel, which saw a $5 million makeover that celebrates its original character and history.
Newmarket Villages is still a destination centre for the local community, and it offers everything you need under one roof - from shopping and dining to Reading Cinemas and professional suites.

Stockwell Leisure - Centenary Pool
The Centenary Pool complex was constructed in 1959 by the Brisbane City Council as its principal contribution to the celebrations marking the centenary of local government in Brisbane. Designed by prominent Queensland architect James Birrell, the sophisticated and inventive design comprised an Olympic standard pool, diving facilities and dedicated learn to swim facilities.
After 34 years, the Brisbane City Council almost demolished the complex due to its disrepair. However, the local community pushed back on the decision, which saw the Centenary Pool make it to the Queensland Heritage Register. Later in 1995, the Brisbane City Council accepted Stockwell's redevelopment solution, which would restore, improve and manage the complex as an inner-city swimming, training and hydrotherapy centre.
Stockwell Leisure continues its legacy in swimming with Splash Learn to Swim. Mark and Tracy Stockwell have combined their extensive swimming, business and property development experience to create swimming stars in the pool every day.
